Power Rankings - Week 9

Here are the power rankings for Week 9

Quite a few surprises this week. Some of the top teams had their asses handed to them. NYR, MIN, PHI, VAN all played spoilers. Congrats to them!

MTL hasn't managed to rebound to their former glory. Especially after losing to NYR. They are still sitting on top of the EAST, but for how long? PIT looks hungry, and has already passed OTT. PIT gets the top spot this week as they were the only team with an unbeaten streak that also played against top tier teams. Handing WPG a rare thrashing 5-0 defeat. 

VAN was also a big surprise this week. Handing CGY their ass in a SO and then beating MIN 6-5 giving VAN their FIRST 2-win week this year. Hats off to them for keeping things interesting. And, like NYR, showing that they can make you pay if you start your backup against them.

EDM slipped quite a bit this week. That 6-5 loss to PHI definitely hurt them. Compared to TBL who also went 0-3 this week. But it was hard to penalize TBL because they played LAK, MTL, CGY; and only lost by 1 GA each time. EDM also played MTL and lost by 1, and losing to DET is understandable, but that PHI game was supposed to be their one lock this week. I'm sure they will rebound next week, afterall, that 4th place spot in the west is pretty much guarenteed for them at this point.

DET and WSH are still battling it out for 4th in the EAST. Very entertaining. Kudos to MIN for not going quietly into the good night and throwing a wrench in DET's plans. WSH is going to have to start beating division rivals like PIT, OTT and MTL if they expect to gain some ground against DET though.
