Power rankings - Week 6 2022-12-31 Enable GingerPower Rankings - Week 6 Here we go: last power rankings of 2022. PHI is in freefall. The only team that's been worse than VAN this year is CHI... until now. I still don't see them sucking worse than CHI, but CHI is actually TRYING to tank. Time to sell off the assets and embrace the rebuild. VAN's 1 win this week moved them up to best of the worst. NYR who lost to VAN seemed to take that personally and won all their remaining games finishing an impressive 4-1-0 this week. If they keep this up, I could see them moving past EDM and flirting with the top row next week. EDM definitely had another rough week. Granted facing MTL, DET, LAK in one week isn't easy. So it's hard to fault them for that. But losing to TBL - if you want to stay in the top row, you have to beat the bottom tiers and stay ahead of your fellow middle-men. PIT is determined to remain a contender, and is not happy being a middle-man. Good for them! The more competitive teams we have, the more interesting things are. Speaking of - the TBL and DET rivalry is heating up. Even if neither team makes the playoffs, this is still amazing to watch. I wonder how WSH feels about this... Some fun facts about this trio: Record & GF/GA - Against the west TBL - 9-4-0 39/31 DET - 8-5-0 69/52 WSH - 9-4-1 60/40 Record & GF/GA - Against the east TBL - 5-7-1 76/74 DET - 7-5-1 62/51 WSH - 5-5-2 98/78 It will be interesting to see who grabs the final playoff spot in the east, and why it will be NYR. Another interesting rivalry, although a cross-conference one, is MTL and WPG Let's look at their stats: Record & GF/GA - Against the east MTL - 11-1-0 47/26 WPG - 11-4-1 64/39 Record & GF/GA - Against the west MTL - 12-3-0 69/44 WPG - 10-1-0 68/12 12 goals against vs. the west. That's just insane. As for OTT.... well.... they can beat up on CHI all day, but when it counts they need to beat teams like WPG and DET. They are still a contender, and maybe weeks like this make them a dark horse. If they start to get too complacent though... they could be the "Toronto" of this league. Speaking of the post-season, LAK vs CGY (which is a highly likely round-1 match up) should be an intense series. On paper, LAK is the better team, but the scrappy CGY underdogs have squeeked out 3 key victories this year. A match up that rivals DET and TBL for sure. Last but not least (because, let's face it, until CHI starts pulling off some upsets, no one cares until the draft lottery) COL and MIN are on 6 and 8-game losing streaks respectively - effectively securing the 4th and final playoff spot in the west for EDM. While they may not be mathematically eliminated, they are basically battling for position in the draft lottery now.
